OEM Intake System Assessment:
While BMW's OEM G8X intake design meets factory power targets, it quickly becomes restrictive under tuning conditions. Pipercross engineers identified the filtration media, airbox outlet sizes, and intake pipe volume as key bottlenecks, leading to a complete redesign using lightweight, high-strength carbon fibre.

Redesigned Carbon Fibre Airbox Lids:
The AirMax carbon fibre lids maximise the potential of the Plus filters, offering increased post-filter volume, enlarged 98mm outlets (+24% and +75% over OEM outlets), and flow-optimised geometry for superior laminar airflow. Aluminium outlet rings ensure long-term durability under extreme heat and stress.
Carbon Fibre Intake Cross Pipe:
The carbon fibre intake cross pipe was meticulously engineered to maximise internal volume while maintaining critical clearances in the engine bay. This optimized airflow path helps deliver cooler, denser air to the turbos for more consistent performance — even under extreme conditions.
Precision Silicone Hoses and Hardware:
Smooth bore, thick-walled silicone hoses provide unrestricted airflow and engine movement flexibility. CNC-machined, hard-anodised aluminium couplers and stainless-steel hardware ensure OE-quality fitment, corrosion resistance, and longevity.
Research & Development:
Pipercross utilises the latest 3D scanning, CAD, CFD simulation, and real-world dyno testing to create each AirMax system. Independent dyno testing on the G80 M3 demonstrated significant gains both stock and tuned — with the AirMax system resisting heat soak far better than the OEM intake under tuned conditions.
